Indonesia’s oil ports not safe: IMB

The International Maritime Bureau (IMB) has warned Indonesias major oil ports like Dumai and Bali...

In a statement the IMB said, “The International Maritime Bureau is maintaining its warning postings on Indonesia’s major oil ports Dumai, Balikpapan and Tanjung Priok [and] the warnings will remain for this quarter until there is a decline in the number of reported attacks in the region.”

“Based on figures from our bi-annual report, Indonesia recorded the highest number of attacks, accounting for over one quarter of the world total with 50 reported incidents in the first half of this year. Indonesian waters also experienced the most violent attacks, with many of the assailants armed with guns and knives.

“We do not see the number of attacks in the region dropping until Indonesian authorities pursue more serious measures to address the problem,” added the IMB without elaborating further.

Indonesian authorities were not available for comment.
